Red face Excitement in the big city!

Last night, dh and I had gotten into bed, had been there maybe 10 minutes or so when we hear screeching tires and a big CRASH! outside. The noise was definitely a car crashing into something, so dh jumps up and looks out the window. He can't see anything, and I told him that if someone had hit the Murano, the alarm would be going off - and if someone hit his truck I thought the impact would've been close enough to the Murano to set off the alarm.

He sits there for a few minutes, and watches the cops zoom around and then stop and spotlight this truck that has been sitting across the street for months. Pretty soon all the cops take off again.

When I went outside this morning, I looked over both our vehicles, no damage - as I had figured. Then I notice the truck across the street is shoved up onto the curb, which it wasn't before - and the vehicle sitting next to it has this huge dent in the left rear quarter panel. Then I notice that the steel bumper on the truck has this paint mark all the way across it.

He just called to tell me that one of his tow truck buddies came into the shop this morning to tell him he was lucky his truck wasn't parked across the street. Apparently some kids had stolen a family member's car and were joy riding. They say that a red mustang was chasing them around town, and that they lost control and hit these two vehicles, panicked and tried to run. They didn't get far from where they hit the vehicles, I guess they hit so hard that parts were falling off their car leaving a nice trail for the cops to follow. The tow truck guy said that when they hit that steel bumper, the hitch caught on their door and pretty much tore huge holes in the side of the car. I bet the aunt they stole the car from isn't going to think it's as funny as I do!

Oh yeah, if they'd have gotten hurt, it definitely wouldn't have been funny.

The tow truck guy said when the cops found them, they tried to slide down in their seats so they wouldn't be seen, but kept popping their heads up to see what the cops were doing. He said they looked like 'whack-a-moles' - you know that game with those things that pop up out of a hole and you try to whack em with the hammer thing at fairs? LOL

What fools! Do you know how old the kids were? It was a week night... I wonder where the heck their parents were. They are lucky they didn't kill themselves or someone else. I bet the mustang was chasing them because they did something to antagonize them!

I don't know how old they were - I'll have to go look in the paper and see if it says.

The kids were apparently from the town that I work in, not the town I live in. There has always been a huge rivalry between our towns - and it hasn't always been a peaceful one. When I was in high school, some of their high school kids came over and painted a huge pot leaf on the side of our brand new high school. We retailiated by using rock salt to burn a nice big GR (our town initials) into their brand new football stadium grass. If we caught any kids from there in our town, we'd chase em out - and they'd do the same. I remember going over to their high school and spinning cookies in the parking lot just to be mean. I remember one time that a bunch of us went over there and some of their kids tried to chase out out of town. We got lost in a housing district and had to baja down a steep hillside in this little bity car because they had the street blocked. It was common for the cops to have a major presence during any athletic events between the schools - as fights happened all the time.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they were over here trying to start a fight with some kids.

It really does sound like grease... we have a neighborhood close by that our neighborhood always rivaled with as well. Kind of a trashy neighborhood. The houses over there were made as little vacation houses to hang on the beach and crash there if you wanted (sort of for the people in our neighborhood to use during the summer, lol)... they look like shacks, most of them... or a motel type of thing. You can't even fit two cars down the street, one car would have to back up to the corner to let you through!

Then lots and lots of people started living in them all year round. I guess that caused hostility in my neighborhood toward them because it was supposed to be a classy place that turned kind of trashy. So now that area is basically ALL occupied and the rivalry never ends. In school the girls in my neighborhood were called (because our neighborhood is built around a big park) Squirrels, lol... and they were called Beach Rats

Their girls were so trashy that if we walked down their main avenue- they'd try to jump us.
