Exclamation I found a dog!

It seems like they always come to me, lol- no?

You'll never believe this one. I went to the post office to mail a present Maximus bought his girlfriend and some other stuff. The lady at the shipping place has a Pit Bull mix that stays at the store with her during the workday. I brought him a squeaky ball and we were talking about how sweet he was... how people run on the streets regardless etc.

From there I was going to the supermarket to get Maximus his food for the week. While I was walking into my car I slipped on ice and fell into a puddle of water yup... soaking wet I get back into the car and call Keith to let him know I'm coming home to change before the market. It was fate that I fell because as I was driving home in the distance I saw a dog running on the double yellow lines, cars beeping him, people running, as he was bouncing around trying to get some attention. As I got closer I saw a man push him away and run into his car, cars STILL flying by- nobody trying to help him. I quickly turned my car into both lanes, blocking all traffic from moving (so he wouldn't get hit). As the cars are beeping at me I open the car door and say "Come here boy" ... he looked at me with the happiest eyes, as though he was saying "You're really going to help me?"... that's when I realized why nobody was helping him. He was a Pit Bull.

He came running onto my lap full of kisses and I sat him next to me in my drivers seat. I pulled the car over so everyone would stop beeping at me and check him for a collar, anything... nothing So I locked him in the car and stood outside asking everyone around if they've ever seen the dog and had any clue who he belonged to... nothing

I headed home, called Keith and said "Come outside without Maximus, but with the black loop leash (it's a collar and leash in one). He responded "Oh geez, not again". He came out, we put the leash on and stood around to collect thoughts for a moment. We couldn't bring him in, Maximus has enough health issues, plus he was too wild (obviously no training) and Maximus wouldn't take to that very well... and at this point I don't know if the dog is good with other dogs.

Animal care & control is out of the question, he'd be put to sleep for sure... so we needed to make a decision FAST as it was late in the afternoon. I tried going to my vets to see if I could board him, but they were closed. I found a vets office where an old friend of mine works. I will be boarding him there, get his shots tomorrow, a fecal test, and is scheduled for neutering on wednesday. I will put up posters to look for the owner, but boarding around here is expensive and I will need to look for a home for him as soon as possible since I don't exactly have a money tree!

He couldn't be a day over 10 months, so friendly but not exactly trained. Very smart though because I taught him to sit and stay in the few hours I had him. He was VERY happy to see other dogs, though we didn't let him mingle because we don't know if he's had shots or anything about his history.

I took pictures that I will put on the flyers to put up later tonight or tomorrow (I'll post them here in a bit... I just got home and REALLY need food). The vet suggested we wait to neuter him incase the owner comes forward- but also stated that legally I'm covered if I wish to neuter him... and I said that I am opting for neutering- it's at my expense, right? The last thing we need is another irresponsible owner who refuses to neuter their dog and then breed it. He was dirty, no collar, no microchip, no anything- then I can't really assume that the owner was a good one.

Really this dog is beautiful, light chocolate coloring, with white on the chest (and somewhere else I won't state for his saftey- if an owner steps forward) and beautiful amber eyes. My God- I'm in love with him!

Aww thanks! The thing that pissed me off is that the vet's office was like "We have no room" and I said "OMG really? Do you know any place nearby that is a nice atmosphere with boarding? You do lost cost s/n right?" and when I said the last sentence she looked at me weird and went in the back. Came back and said they could take him... they realized I was willing to pay money, I guess at first they assumed I wanted them to take him off my hands.

Then the young lady behind that counter was like "OMG he's not neutered either! If my dog wasn't spayed I would love to breed her with him"... boy did she get a lecture from me!!! Our neighbor, Keith's long time friend (who is like the sweetest person in the world) came with me, she had to calm me down from ridiculous comments often! People are REALLY REALLY dumb!!!

Well... without further adieu... here is the b-e-a-utiful pup!!!

By the sounds of it, I don't think his owners care about him too much. I hope you can find him a great home!

He is REALLY gorgeous! I love that colouring, so I am in love with him LOL. He looks little too! What a baby .

Are you going to let him and Maximus meet?

Oh he IS beautiful... and I really hope we can find him a great home, somewhere where he will get the training and care that he deserves. He has a great temperament- he just doesn't have basic manners.

I'm going in the morning to put up flyers to try and find his owners. But in the meantime I'd like to post him for adoption so I can get the process rolling... I truly don't expect anyone to come forward. And even if they did, is that even the best thing for him?

As for meeting Maximus, it really depends. I have to see how his tests come back first. If he is going to be homed with someone I know then definitely!!! If not, I don't even want to take a chance... Maximus is high strung on the leash with new dogs... and this dog is wild and hard to handle right now. With some training and good health I'd certainly bring him around Maximus!

Oh, and as for my comment about why nobody was helping him... I'm sure some people are just scared of dogs. But there were A LOT of people out... not ONE person but me helped that poor dog. There is no way breed didn't play a role there... it's sad, but it's true. If he had been a lab or poodle, I'm sure someone would've taken him in WAY before I was even around to see him.

Handsome boy.
So let me get this straight - it was an employee at the vet clinic that made the breeding remark? That inspires confidence.

Yup!! The receptionist. Such ignorant people... it's really sickening. I'm seriously considering transferring him to my vet tomorrow. Though it may be hard with the testing. I guess I'll see how they're doing. I've already scheduled his neuter, they do low cost for rescues/strays- like 150 or something, where my vet charges a minimum of 350.

Here I was just getting happy that we got the credit card with Maximus' vet bills from over 10k (from when he was very sick) down to 700, lol... I'm really hoping I don't have start charging for this guy. Though I would do anything I have to for him... poor Hercules (that's what we've been calling him all day, lol)
