This is bugging me!...

A friends daughter has a female dachsund and she keeps breeding her and not getting the pups vet checked or shots, NOTHING...They can't even afford to take care of themselves let alone the mother dog...The dog had pups Thanksgiving weekend, she had 5 pups...The runt of the litter got very sick, the daughter signed over her rights to the pup to a girl at the vets that was willing to have the pup treated etc...

I found out yesterday that the daughters in-laws took 2 of the pups and the daughter kept 2!!...A male and a female...Now I know that she won't get these dogs vetted or spayed/neutered, so we all know what that means!...

I want to pay for the shots and tho I can't force them to spay/neuter I would be willing to pay for that too...But another friend and I were talking about this earlier and she said if I pay for the shots etc. that its only going to encourage the daughter to breed more...Basicly she said it was none of my business, which she has a point but what about the puppies??????

I couldn't sleep last night b/c all I can think about is those pups not being cared for...Its driving me crazy!...RIMH

Oh RIMH- I'm enraged after reading your post... it's people like this that ARE the problem. I personally wouldn't pay for shots unless they allowed me to have them speutered. They will end up breeding and having puppies with physical and mental defects.

You should try your best to talk them into accepting your offer... make them realize that for every puppy they bring into this world THREE shelter dogs die. Puppymills and backyard breeders are the biggest part of the pet overpopulation problem. Not to mention her highly irresponsible breeding practices!!

So not only is this person being hugely irresponsible, but now she'll be breeding brother to sister/mother to son????? I'm surprised that any of the pups have survived at all. It is so frustrating to know people that don't care that they are bringing sick pups into the world, not to mention adding to the homeless pet population.

And for someone else to say that it isn't your business - well, that may be true, but if no one makes it their business, then the byb's and the puppymillers will continue to thrive while millions of homeless pets are euthanized each year. These animals have no voice - if we don't speak for them - no one will.

People that do this should be kicked hard and swiftly in the arse.
It's tough to see this happen, and I agree that paying anything to help out would only encourage them to continue. The one thing you can do..if they live in the city, they need to have a breeding licence/or be a registered breeder..so report them as many times as they will listen.

and if they are selling the pups, there are taxes they're suppose to pay on any and all "income", so again, report this, could you introduce them to this board or really any other (although ours is best*S*) maybe a bit of education will help?

I can ask her to join the board but I doubt she will...She has had 2 litters and the first pup relatives took and than this litter she kept 2 and her inlaws took 2...So she hasn't made any money...What makes me sick is she's so lazy she didn't even housebreak the mother dog and I know she won't these puppies...I've been fuming over this all day!...

I am going to talk to her and see if she'll let me come where she lives (2 hours from me) and take the pups to the vets...I'm not giving her the money, she'll just blow it on whatever she wants...

I'm ticked at my friend (the mother) because she's not on her daughters case about this...I'm surprised that any of the pups survived too b/c the momma dog has never been wormed or had shots...NOTHING...She has NO business having the mother dog let alone the puppies!...

This is just making me plain sick......................
