So, this post is going to be hard as heck to write, but here it does.
Brady, is no longer with us. We had Brady for a few days before the vet check (due to scheduling conflicts) and he seemed like a happy boy, he was adjusting well to our house, only thing was that he walked sorta funny. *I* thought that it was cuz he was a puppy and his back legs looked a lil longer than his front legs. So we brought him to the vet, actually my mother did since I couldn’t get time off work, and I got a call on my cell to get over to the vets office. When they watched him walk they were VERY concerned about it, and when they felt his legs, they were completely malformed. His knee wasn’t right, his leg bones were twisted and not growing correct, he couldn’t bend his knees or move his legs the way he was supposed to. They called in all the vets in the practice to look at him, saying that had never seen it this bad. Genetic Malformation. They start asking if he has been showing any signs of pain, or inability to do things. He can’t go up the steps, I thought it was cuz he was puppy, when he tried, he had to swing his back legs unto the step. At night when trying to get to sleep, he would chew on his legs, constantly. I thought he was maybe just allergic to his new food, I was gonna go out and witch his food this same day… They told me that he was probably chewing from the pain. They ask us to take Xrays, which they tell us that they don’t know what they are going to see, or whether or not it can even be fixed… but we say to go ahead with the Xrays anyways… we’re already soo attached to this lil boy, he’s ours… he’s Steve’s fist animal. The xrays show his legs are HORRIBLY malformed, I don’t even know the terms they used.. They said they wouldn’t be willing to do surgery on him, because they didn’t know how it would even help, his legs were just too bad. This all happened within the time frame we can return him to the OSPCA. So we call them, to let them know whats going on with him… our vet asked us to find out if there were littermates, they wanted them all checked out for this. So we let them know, and we sat down to make a decision. We talked with the Ospca, they said if we returned him, he would be put to sleep. We cried soo hard. She said they would try to contact another vet, a specialist to see if anyone would be willing to do the surgery for them for cheaper so he wouldn’t be put down. They got the info from the vet, and said no one would be willing to do it. He’s in pain already and its better for him to be put to sleep. We knew we had our answer to the decision, but it was still hard. Our lil boy was already in pain at only 3 months old. We brought him to the OSPCA where he could be with his litter mates again before being put to sleep. I didn’t want to ever post this on here. I know what was said about me when I couldn’t save Dallas in June… and I didn’t think I could handle anymore uninformed comments. But this is my website too, a place I like to read and go to, and without posting this, I feel like I am lying to ppl. Brady is gone. We loved him, but love couldn’t fix him… neither could all the money in the world, his pain could have only gotten worse…. We wanted to let him free of the pain to go play in the clouds. I’d appreciate any comments, rude or not, to be left on here or PM’d to me. No more talking behind my back, that’s not what this website should be about. |

oh how sad. What a horrible decision to have to make. My heart goes out to you, how sad for a little fellow to be in so much pain. Just think, he is running in a place now where his poor little legs don't hurt. Oh geez.....im tearing up again.

I'm so sorry Saf, that is so terrible. He was SO young!!! Didn't the OSPCA give him an exam before adopting him out!?! You two must be heartbroken!! This is too sad
![]() BTW- that's NOT what this website is about. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

{{Safyre}} I am so sorry for you & Steve. You made the right choice. And even though Brady wasn't with you very long, I'm sure he knew he was loved. Often this decision is harder on those who are left behind. Brady is happy, painfree, and running like the wind across the bridge.

I too am sorry for the pain you are feeling, but I do believe you made the right choice. No dog should be made to suffer to save our feelings, this little one was loved enough to be let go. Take Care and feel good about loving him enough to do all you could.

Thanks for the kind words ...
as for the OSPCA, yes, they should have examined him before he was adopted, i have no idea why this wasn't done, or if it was, why they didn't realize something was majorly wrong. I hope that they did get word out to the littermate owners to get their animals checked as well. |
