LOHV-NYC Endorses Brian Kavanagh for the New York State Assembly
The League of Humane Voters of New York City, an animal protection political advocacy group with 6,000 members citywide, announced today that it is endorsing Democrat Brian Kavanagh for election to the Assembly on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.

“Brian Kavanagh has the smarts, energy and patience to get things done in Albany" said John Phillips, LOHV-NYC’s Director, adding that “Brian will be a champion for animal protection issues and he deserves the vote of all humane voters in the 74th Assembly District."

“We are thrilled to be working with Brian and we’re confident he has the resolve to get laws on the books to protect animals,” said Maryanne Byington, a LOHV-NYC Board Member and long-time resident of Albany. In particular, Byington said she was impressed with Kavanagh’s commitment to humane education and to passing legislation which would outlaw the production of foie gras.  Foie gras, French for “fatty liver,” is produced by force-feeding birds until their livers become diseased.

Kavanagh said he was “truly honored” to receive the endorsement and that he was looking forward to working with LOHV-NYC to advance humane measures in Albany

LOHV-NYC’s endorsement process includes a written questionnaire (which is made available to members by request) and an in-person interview with its Director and members of its Executive Committee.  The final decision on all endorsements is made by its Board of Directors.
